The North Elba Christmas Community Fund was established in the early 1970's by local clergy in the Community to help provide Christmas Dinner for the less fortunate. Through the years the program has grown in numbers. With the recent economy this last year it was busier than ever.
Our program runs strictly on donations. We send out letters in October for donations from the Community, we receive monies as well from many churches and organizations. Without out the donations we could not do what we do. We have a very generous Community here in Lake Placid.
In conjunction with the Palace Theater we are able to provide an extra gift by the Palace providing the elfing tree. We give a list of ages of children to them and they do tags and hang them on their tree and persons in the community take a tag and shop for that child all they know about the child is their age, sex and size. Then the gifts come to us to distribute.
The business owners locally held a Holiday Village Stroll Weekend on Main Street and donated 10% of their proceeds to the Christmas Fund.
Stewarts does a holiday match for groups benefiting local kids and donates a portion of the proceeds to the Christmas Fund.
Every year through the efforts of many volunteers we provide snowsuits, hats, mittens, boots, sleds, blankets, toys and diapers to approximately 160 children. Eighty-five Senior Citizens were given fruit baskets or poinsettias just to let them know they have not been forgotten.
Shannon Porter, Co- Chairman heads up the food delivery and provides a complete Christmas Dinner including everything from turkey to dessert for 190 families.
